PRIZE PURSE ANNOUNCED FOR THE COMMONWEALTH TRIATHLON SERIES
Streamline Events, LLC is pleased to partner with Team Psycho and offer a $8,000 combined prize purse for the 2009 Commonwealth Triathlon Series. The events in this high quality sprint distance races in metro Boston include the:- Cohasset Triathlon. Cohasset, Massachusetts. Race date June 28, 2009. Prize purse $2,500 (see chart 2). In two years, the Cohasset Triathlon has become a premier short course race at the national level. The 2009 Cohasset Triathlon has been picked as the Northeast qualifier for the Junior Team USA for Sprint Distance World Championships in Australia. In addition, the Cohasset Triathlon has been also been selected as the Special Qualifier for the 2009 Age Group Nationals in Tuscaloosa, AL on August 22, 2009.
- Marlborough Triathlon. Marlborough, Massachusetts. Race date July 26, 2009. Prize purse $3,000 (see chart 1). Founded by Olympian Jarrod Shoemaker and Elite Coach Tim Crowley, the Marlborough Triathlon will offer a unique venue for athletes and spectators alike.
- Gloucester Triathlon. Gloucester, Massachusetts. Race date August 9, 2009. Prize purse $2,500 (see Chart 2). Founded by pro triathlete Janda Ricci-Munn, the race venue will showcase Gloucester's maritime history and natural beauty.
The Team Psycho Elite Development Program helped fund the majority of the prize purse. The mission of this program is to provide financial and mentoring support for younger athletes dedicated to reaching the highest goals with the sport: namely the ITU World Championships and the Olympics.
Team Psycho regularly sponsors a few select races that will encourage the best athletes to attend these races and potentially serve as candidates for the Team Psycho Elite Development Program. Carmen Monks, Team Psycho board member, said "we want to give back to the sport and assist race directors who have served the triathlon community by helping to promote first-rate events with elite fields. We feel that this series is a great match for our team."
Founder and Race Director, Bill Burnett, said of the partnership, "we are thrilled with our partnership with Team Psycho and we are very excited to offer an aggressive prize purse that will ensure the very best athletes come out and compete on race day."
Each of the three prize purses will go 5 places deep for the Pro/Elite male and female divisions.
